Holistic Therapies at an Seomra Yoga

Galway community acupuncture

Galway Community Acupuncture is a community centred healing practice with the aim to offer affordable acupuncture in a comfortable and relaxed communal setting.

The clinic is open plan and people are treated together in a large, soothing therapy space. This way more than one person can be treated at a time, which allows the cost to be significantly lower. This enables patients to continue treatment long enough to really get better and stay better.

The initial consultation is carried out in a private room with a careful review of current concerns and health history. There is a thorough traditional diagnosis, which consists of looking at the tongue, taking your pulse, and asking specific questions to get to the root of your current imbalance.  A typical session can last from 45 minutes to an hour.

Community acupuncture has many benefits: friends and family can come in for treatment together; many people find a group space comforting, making treatment less isolating; and there is a collective energy created in a shared healing environment that definitely adds something to the process.

Affordable

Treatments are offered on a sliding scale and it is up to the patients to decide what they feel comfortable paying within the price range of €25-€45 for the first session and €20-€40 for follow up sessions. This makes it possible for people to continue treatment without it being cost prohibitive, and increases the potential for successful healing.

Conditions Treated

Acupuncture is a powerfully effective and naturally relaxing form of medicine and is used to treat a wide range of health concerns such as: anxiety, stress, insomnia, digestive problems, headache, migraine, asthma, high blood pressure, depression, arthritis, muscular pain, gynaecological disorders, PMT, menopause, sinusitis, allergies, tinnitus, chronic fatigue, joint pain, immune support.

How to prepare for your first treatment

·        Wear loose clothing for comfort and easy accessibility to find point locations

·        Avoid coffee, alcohol, sugar, and greasy foods before your treatment

·        Do not arrive full from a big meal or on an empty stomach

·        Plan an hour after your treatment to relax and enjoy the benefits

Privacy

Since several people are being treated in the same room it is vital that we respect your privacy and the privacy of others.  Treatments take place in a spacious treatment room with a private consultation area.

Practitioner

Maara Mulgrew Lic.Ac. is a graduate of the Acupuncture Foundation Ireland and the founder of Galway Community Acupuncture.  Her clinical experience was completed at the Jiangsu Provincial Hospital, which is affiliated with the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. Her post-graduate clinical training in Nanjing China involved working full-time in a state hospital.  This gave her the experience of practicing acupuncture in a multi-bed setting.  She was inspired by the sense of healing created by many people of all ages and backgrounds joined together within one room and it was then that she realised the many benefits of community acupuncture.

Maara is a member of the Acupuncture Foundation Professional Association (AFPA), European Traditional Chinese Medicine Association (ETCMA), Community Acupuncture Network (CAN), and Association of Community and Multibed Acupuncture Clinics (ACMAC).
